Hi, I'm Nathan, the craftsman behind Crafted by Design. As a shop teacher here in Alberton, Montana, I'm passionate about sharing my love for creating and helping students develop skills and confidence. What began as a personal hobby in woodworking, welding, and robotics has organically grown into a thriving custom shop right on our family property.
Throughout the year, and especially during the summer, I immerse myself in honing my own skills. My primary focus is on one-of-a-kind live edge slab furniture, often utilizing native Montana woods that my father and I mill ourselves. I love contrasting the rustic, natural beauty of these wood slabs with sleek, industrial-modern welded metal bases, creating pieces that truly stand out. My experience teaching about wood properties means I enjoy working with a diverse range of species, cuts, colors, and origins.
Beyond furniture, I've developed a true enjoyment for sign making. Leveraging tools like a laser engraver, CNC router, and plasma cutter, I've crafted nearly 100 custom signs. I find immense satisfaction in both the graphic design/CAD element and the meticulous craftsmanship and artistry involved in working with wood and metal
